Sunil Kant Munjal, Founder Patron of Serendipity Arts and Chairman of THE BRIJ, said the collaboration with France’s Centre National des Arts Plastiques builds on years of artistic exchange as the New Delhi cultural centre prepares for its inauguration.
A major Franco Indian artistic collaboration has been announced for the inauguration of THE BRIJ, a new cultural centre in New Delhi that will focus on sustainability, interdisciplinary creation and public engagement.
The partnership brings together France’s Centre National des Arts Plastiques, Serendipity Arts and the Embassy of France in India for an ambitious long term cultural initiative designed to deepen artistic exchange between the two countries.
The inaugural exhibition at THE BRIJ will feature approximately 50 artists from the French and Indian contemporary art scenes. The project has been co curated by a Franco Indian scientific committee led by Pascal Beausse and Vidya Shivadas, bringing together works from Cnap’s public collection alongside newly commissioned pieces by India based artists.
Drawing from Cnap’s collection of more than 108,000 works accumulated over more than two centuries, the exhibition will create a dialogue between historical and contemporary artistic practices across geographies and cultural contexts.
At the centre of the project is the concept of ecosophy, which connects ecological awareness, social practices and collective ways of living. Organisers said the initiative aims to explore how contemporary art can generate new conversations at the intersection of ecology, society and public engagement.
Sunil Kant Munjal, Founder Patron of Serendipity Arts and Chairman of THE BRIJ, said, “Our collaboration with Cnap began several years ago, when they joined as an Institutional Partner of the Serendipity Arts Festival which celebrated its 10th anniversary last December. Since the beginning Cnap has contributed richly, both through landmark exhibitions and through the generous loan of works that have brought leading figures of the French art scene to our audiences. It felt entirely natural, then, that Cnap should become an essential international partner for the inauguration of our new centre in Delhi, THE BRIJ.”
Martin Bethenod, Director of Cnap, said the initiative aligns with the institution’s mission to expand the international visibility of public collections while creating long term cultural engagement with India’s artistic ecosystem.
Beyond the exhibition, the partnership will include a cross residency programme between France and India, interdisciplinary research, artistic commissions, conferences, publications, professional exchange programmes and capacity building initiatives.
The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs is supporting the project through the Fonds Équipe France, contributing nearly €900,000 over the next two years. The funding will also support training for cultural professionals through THE BRIJ Cultural Leaders Fellowship and programmes for emerging creative entrepreneurs through THE BRIJ’s incubator initiative.
H.E. Thierry Mathou, Ambassador of France to India, said institutions such as Serendipity Arts play an important role in India’s cultural ecosystem by helping build stronger artistic and professional connections between the two countries.
The curatorial project is expected to be presented publicly during the Serendipity Arts Festival in Goa in December 2026.
