Himesh Reshammiya returns as Superstar Judge and Aditya Narayan hosts Indian Idol Legends Return, while Harsh Sheth, Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television, and Aradhana Bhola, Managing Director, Fremantle, discuss the new competition format premiering October 17 at 8 PM.
Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV have announced Indian Idol Legends Return, a new edition of the singing competition featuring 24 performers from previous seasons.
Produced by Fremantle, the programme premieres on October 17, 2026, at 8 PM and will air every Saturday and Sunday.
Unlike earlier editions centred on discovering new singers, this season brings back established Indian Idol contestants to compete against one another in 12 duos.
The returning performers include Abhijeet Sawant, Amit Sana, Salman Ali and Sayli Kamble, alongside other singers who previously appeared on the programme.
Each pair will be assessed on its musical performance, coordination and ability to work together in a competitive setting.
Himesh Reshammiya returns to the programme as Superstar Judge, while Aditya Narayan will host the season.
The judging arrangement introduces an additional element, with contestants receiving evaluations from both Reshammiya and their fellow performers.
This approach brings the perspectives of experienced singers into the assessment process and adds a new dimension to the competition.
The season is built around the idea that earlier success does not guarantee victory in a new contest.
Its central message, “Sirf ek baar jeetna kaafi nahi hota, baar baar jeetna padta hai,” reflects the expectation that returning contestants must earn audience support through fresh performances.
The duet format will require singers to adapt to different musical partnerships, develop coordination and demonstrate their abilities alongside other experienced performers.
Himesh Reshammiya, Singer and Composer, said, “It brings together artists who have already proven their talent and earned their place in the world of music but must now rise to the challenge all over again.”
He added, “With a new competitive format, every performance becomes an opportunity to push boundaries, win hearts and prove their mettle once more.”
For viewers familiar with earlier Indian Idol seasons, the programme offers an opportunity to hear returning contestants in new combinations.
The competition will also test how performers adapt their individual singing styles to duet arrangements.
Harsh Sheth, Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television (SET), said, “Indian Idol has always been about discovering extraordinary voices and creating moments that stay with audiences.”
Discussing the new season, he added, “The season brings together the nostalgia and emotional connect of these much-loved voices with the thrill of a fresh competition.”
According to the broadcaster, the new format is intended to connect audiences with familiar contestants while introducing a different competitive structure.
Aradhana Bhola, Managing Director, Fremantle, described the duet format as a significant change for the franchise.
She said, “Marrying the gold of iconic Idol fandom with the newness of all out duet performances for the first time ever in the history of the format worldwide, Indian Idol Legends Return is setting its own bar.”
The production brings together returning contestants, a familiar judge and host, and a format that places musical partnerships at the centre of the competition.
With 24 singers competing in 12 pairs, the programme will focus on how established performers respond to new partners, peer evaluations and the pressure of competing again.
Indian Idol Legends Return premieres on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 8 PM on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV, with new episodes scheduled every Saturday and Sunday.
