National Systems Gold Medal Goes to IIT Ropar Director Rajeev Ahuja at 49th Systems Conference

Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, received the Systems Society of India’s highest award at Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra, recognising his contribution to Systems Science and Engineering.

Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, has received the National Systems Gold Medal, the highest award instituted by the Systems Society of India.
The medal was presented at Dayalbagh Educational Institute in Agra during the 49th (Inter) National Systems Conference, held from September 21 to 23, 2026.
This year’s conference was organised around the theme “Integrated Intelligent Systems for People and Planet.”

The National Systems Gold Medal is awarded to an eminent individual who has made a significant contribution to a branch of Systems Science and Engineering. The honour is presented during the National Systems Conference, the annual flagship event of the Systems Society of India.
Speaking on receiving the honour, Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar, said, “I am humbled to receive the National Systems Gold Medal. This recognition belongs to the entire IIT Ropar family, our students, faculty, researchers and staff, whose work makes an institution what it is.”
He added, “I thank the Systems Society of India for this honour. It motivates us to keep working on problems that matter for our people and our planet.”

The National Systems Gold Medal has previously been presented to prominent scientists and academic leaders in India.
Among its past recipients are Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, who received the medal in 1997, and Dr. K. Sivan, former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, who received it in 2018.
IIT Ropar offers B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc and Ph.D. programmes as well as joint and interdisciplinary degrees.
The institute undertakes research across areas including artificial intelligence, clean energy, biomedical engineering, water and agriculture.
The recognition of Prof. Ahuja at the 49th (Inter) National Systems Conference adds his name to the list of recipients of the Systems Society of India’s National Systems Gold Medal.
