Paul John Whisky hosted a cask focused tasting and dining experience in Mumbai with Sonal Holland, reflecting how Indian single malt consumers are becoming more informed about flavour, cask influence and pairing experiences.
Mumbai, 18 May 2026: Paul John Whisky hosted an intimate whisky and dining experience in Mumbai, positioning single malt education at the centre of a luxury consumer experience as Indian drinkers become more informed and selective about how they consume spirits.
Held at GIGI Bombay in Bandra, the curated experience brought together collectors, luxury enthusiasts and industry tastemakers for a guided exploration of cask finished single malts, led by Sonal Holland, India’s first Master of Wine.
The event reflected a broader shift in India’s premium spirits culture, where consumers are increasingly engaging with whisky through tasting notes, cask influence, food pairing and craftsmanship rather than casual nightlife consumption alone.
The guided tasting featured four Paul John expressions, each paired with curated dishes designed to highlight how food and whisky interact across aroma, texture and flavour.
Paul John Brilliance opened the tasting, paired with a Bocconcini Cracker course built around cheese, grilled vegetables and citrus notes.
Paul John Port Select Cask followed, paired with sweet potato gyoza and Sicilian prawn gyoza, highlighting the spirit’s port cask influenced richness and dried fruit profile.
Paul John Madeira Select Cask was matched with truffle risotto and sous vide chicken, bringing out the whisky’s layered nutty and oxidative complexity.
The evening concluded with Paul John PX Select Cask paired with cherry raisin cheesecake, closing the tasting with dessert driven richness shaped by Pedro Ximénez cask influence.
Michael D’Souza, Master Distiller, Paul John Indian Single Malt Whisky, said, “Awards are only meaningful if the people who drink our whisky understand why they are drinking it. Events like this are how we build that understanding.”
Sonal Holland said the evening reflected the growing sophistication of India’s whisky culture and its evolving relationship with food, flavour and luxury experiences.
The event signals how premium spirits brands are increasingly moving beyond product promotion and investing in experience led education to shape consumer understanding and long term category engagement.
