An MoU signed in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Revanth Reddy brings BioVaram closer to establishing a landmark life-sciences hub with a ₹250 crore investment in next-generation regenerative and AI-powered health technologies
India’s biotechnology landscape is set for a major boost as BioVaram announced the creation of a Centre for Excellence in Life Sciences that will advance research in regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, biomaterials, AI-driven bioanalytics and cell and gene therapy. The announcement was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Government of Telangana during the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2025.
The initiative has been guided by Padma Bhushan Dr. K. I. Varaprasad Reddy, Founder of Shantha Biotechnics and Chairman and Mentor of BioVaram, along with Dr. Jaganmohan Reddy, Founder and Managing Director of the company. Their shared vision, supported by strong government participation, positions Telangana to become a global destination for frontier science and translational healthcare technologies.
The MoU signing took place in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri A. Revanth Reddy and Minister for Industries and Commerce Sri D. Sridhar Babu. The Government of Telangana has committed land within the upcoming Bharat Future City and is also expected to extend financial support for the development and operationalisation of the Centre. BioVaram, on its part, has committed an investment of ₹250 crore to build an integrated, future-focused research ecosystem.
The Centre for Excellence will bring together advanced infrastructure for biomimetic materials, regenerative biology, exosome research, predictive AI models for biomedical applications and next-generation therapeutic development. It is expected to generate significant employment, including roles for world-class scientists, engineers, regulatory specialists and operational teams. The project will also create indirect opportunities across construction, logistics, supply chain and the wider innovation ecosystem.
Dr. K. I. Varaprasad Reddy said that India must play a leading role in global innovation and that Telangana is well placed to drive this ambition. He described the Centre for Excellence as a reflection of what can be achieved through purposeful collaboration between government, science and industry.
Dr. Jaganmohan Reddy added that the support of the Chief Minister and the Industries and Commerce Ministry has empowered BioVaram to move forward with the goal of creating a globally competitive research and development platform. He noted that the Centre will strengthen India’s presence in regenerative medicine and AI-enabled biotechnology in the years leading to 2047.
BioVaram, the brand identity of UR Advanced Therapeutics established in 2020, has rapidly emerged as a pioneer in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The company is known for developing AI-enabled peptide design platforms for biomaterials, stem cells and exosome science. Its early promise has earned support from the ASPIRE Seed Fund, the BIRAC BIG Grant and investments from Bhavya Constructions, Dr. K. I. Varaprasad Reddy, Mr. Manoj Namburu and consortium partners.
The company recently introduced its first AI-designed peptide for cell death detection and exosome identification, marking a significant step in translating computational research into practical healthcare solutions. Under the mentorship of Dr. Varaprasad Reddy, known for designing India’s first recombinant vaccine, BioVaram aims to convert scientific innovation into accessible therapies that uphold India’s commitment to equitable healthcare.
BioVaram has also been recognised for its progress by several national initiatives, including winning the Maharathi Challenge 2025, receiving a visit from the Prime Minister during showcase sessions and being ranked among the Top 5 Startups at BioAsia 2024. These recognitions reinforce the company’s position within India’s emerging biotechnology landscape and its commitment to building a globally relevant research hub from Telangana.
The Centre for Excellence is envisioned as a transformative step that will strengthen India’s leadership in life sciences, support breakthrough therapeutic development and contribute to the country’s long-term scientific and economic goals.
