Avik Chatterjee Takes Charge as Speciality Restaurants CEO, Plans 12 to 15 New Walters Stores in Mumbai
Avik Chatterjee’s first expansion priorities include 12 to 15 Walters stores in Mumbai over the next three quarters, a supporting cloud kitchen and greater focus on smaller restaurant formats.

The second-generation leader will oversee brands including Mainland China, Oh! Calcutta, Asia Kitchen, Sigree, Sweet Bengal and Gong, with smaller formats, cloud kitchens and operational efficiency among his immediate priorities.

Speciality Restaurants Limited has elevated Avik Chatterjee as Chief Executive Officer, giving the second-generation entrepreneur a broader leadership mandate across the company’s restaurant, confectionery and emerging food formats.
The appointment took effect from June 1, 2026.
Chatterjee previously served as Executive Director, Innovation & New Formats at Speciality Restaurants, where he worked on developing new restaurant concepts and formats across the group.
As CEO, he will oversee a portfolio that includes Mainland China, Oh! Calcutta, Asia Kitchen by Mainland China, Sigree, Hoppipola, Episode One, Sweet Bengal, Gong and Walters Burger, along with other formats operating across India and international markets.

His immediate priorities include strengthening established brands, entering new markets, building formats around changing dining preferences and improving operational efficiency.
One of the more specific expansion plans is for Walters Burger.
Speciality Restaurants plans to add 12 to 15 Walters stores in Mumbai over the next three quarters, supported by a cloud kitchen aimed at increasing the brand’s delivery reach.
Chatterjee said his approach would focus on building on the company’s existing strengths rather than attempting to reposition the business entirely.

“Speciality Restaurants has spent the last three decades building brands that customers consistently return to and my role as CEO is to strengthen that foundation rather than reinvent it,” he said.
The company will continue investing in its core restaurant brands while placing greater emphasis on cloud kitchens, smaller footprints and formats designed around changing consumer dining habits.
Chatterjee also identified greater use of technology, operational efficiency and customer experience as priorities for the coming quarters.
“Our approach for the coming quarters remains clear: scale what is working, empower our teams on the ground, and expand thoughtfully into the right cities with the right formats,” he said.

Chatterjee grew up closely associated with Mainland China, the flagship restaurant brand founded by his father, Anjanmoy Chatterjee, Chairman and Managing Director of Speciality Restaurants Limited.
His earlier responsibilities within the company included menu and format development, operations and brand strategy, giving him exposure to both established restaurants and newer concepts.
Anjanmoy Chatterjee said the leadership change represents a progression within the business rather than a departure from its existing direction.
“Avik has grown up within this business and has, over the years, worked across nearly every part of it, from menu and format development to operations and brand strategy,” he said.

He added that he would remain closely involved as Chairman while Avik Chatterjee takes responsibility for day-to-day operations.
The transition comes as Speciality Restaurants balances its established dining brands with newer restaurant and QSR formats.
As of June 30, 2026, the company had 73 restaurants, 34 confectionery stores and 11 cloud kitchens across 11 cities in India.
Its international presence includes two Asia Kitchen by Mainland China restaurants in the UAE, one outlet in Muscat, Oman, and Chourangi in London.
The next phase under Avik Chatterjee will therefore combine expansion of newer formats such as Walters with the continued development of brands that have formed the foundation of Speciality Restaurants for more than three decades.
