The Visakhapatnam project will establish a dedicated SPV with AM/NS India holding 51% ownership and the Central and Andhra Pradesh governments holding 24.5% each. NAMTECH will support the technical and academic upgrades.

Shri Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Electronics & Communication, Human Resource Development and Real-Time Governance, Government of Andhra Pradesh, and Ashutosh Telang, Director & Vice President, HR & Administration, AM/NS India, outline plans to modernise four Government ITIs through an industry partnership with NAMTECH.

Four Government Industrial Training Institutes in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam cluster are set to receive upgrades worth ₹200 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM SETU) initiative, following an agreement between the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the Government of India and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India).
The Visakhapatnam cluster has become the first in India to secure approval for its Strategic Investment Plan from the National Steering Committee under PM SETU.

The three parties have signed a Shareholders’ Agreement to establish a dedicated Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) responsible for managing the modernisation and operation of the four institutes.
Under the agreed ownership structure, AM/NS India will hold a 51% stake in the SPV, while the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of India will each hold 24.5%.
The project is intended to improve technical education by introducing modern training infrastructure, industry relevant equipment, updated courses and practical learning opportunities aligned with manufacturing requirements.

Shri Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Electronics & Communication, Human Resource Development and Real-Time Governance, Government of Andhra Pradesh, said, “Our priority is to ensure that Andhra Pradesh’s industrial growth creates opportunities for our young people. This partnership with AM/NS India will help students at four Government ITIs gain practical skills that employers need. By improving training facilities and bringing industry expertise into technical education, we aim to strengthen their employability and help them participate in the State’s growth.”
The project covers Government ITI (Old), Kancharapalem; Government ITI (Girls), Industrial Estate, Visakhapatnam; Government ITI, Bobbili; and Government ITI, Narsipatnam.

Government ITI (Old), Kancharapalem, will serve as the principal training centre, with its facilities and resources shared across the other three institutes.
AM/NS India will implement the upgrades with its academic and technical partner, New Age Makers’ Institute of Technology (NAMTECH).
The planned improvements include modernised classrooms and workshops, workplace relevant equipment, revised courses, the introduction of new trades, practical training and enhanced instructor development.
The partnership seeks to bring technical training closer to actual manufacturing requirements, enabling students to develop skills relevant to industrial employment while helping companies recruit trained candidates from the region.

Ashutosh Telang, Director & Vice President, HR & Administration, AM/NS India, said, “Through this partnership, we will bring our manufacturing experience and NAMTECH’s technical education expertise to four Government ITIs in the Visakhapatnam cluster. Better facilities, hands-on learning and stronger instructor training will help students build skills that employers need.”
The Visakhapatnam project forms part of PM SETU, a Government of India initiative with a total allocation of ₹60,000 crore.
The national programme aims to upgrade 1,000 Government ITIs through industry partnerships and improve five National Skill Training Institutes.
