UPES marks Google Gemini Day in Dehradun as its collaboration with Google Cloud extends AI use across teaching, learning, research and academic innovation
UPES has expanded its collaboration with Google Cloud with the rollout of 10,100 Gemini Enterprise for Education for students and faculty, alongside the celebration of Google Gemini Day on its campus.
The initiative is intended to increase the use of artificial intelligence across learning, teaching, research, collaboration and academic activities at the university.
Representatives from Google India, technology deployment partner ParadigmIT and the UPES community participated in the event.
Those present included Vaibhav Kumar Srivastava, India Head, EdTechs & Education, Google Cloud, India and SAARC; Aanchal Chopra, Google India; Manoj Bhutani, Google India; and Sridhar Gadhi, CEO and MD, ParadigmIT.
The programme included interactions with UPES leadership, students and faculty members, with discussions examining the role of generative artificial intelligence in higher education.
Participants also discussed how access to enterprise AI tools could be incorporated into academic work and used by students and educators for experimentation and problem solving.
As part of Google Gemini Day, Vaibhav Kumar Srivastava conducted a specialised Gemini session for UPES students, followed by an interaction and question and answer session.
The programme also included demonstrations and discussions on using Gemini Enterprise effectively and responsibly across different academic disciplines.
Dr Sunil Rai, Vice Chancellor, UPES, said the university’s approach involves integrating artificial intelligence into teaching, learning and research rather than limiting its use to providing access to technology.
“Becoming an AI First University is not simply about providing access to advanced technology; it is about embedding AI meaningfully into the way our students learn, our faculty teach and conduct research, and our academic community innovates,” Dr Rai said.
“The rollout of Gemini Enterprise for Education at this scale allows our students and faculty to engage with powerful AI capabilities in their everyday academic environment. Our collaboration with Google Cloud is an important step towards developing graduates who are not only comfortable using emerging technologies, but have the confidence and capability to create with them responsibly,” he added.
Vaibhav Kumar Srivastava, India Head, EdTechs & Education, Google Cloud, India and SAARC, said the collaboration could contribute to how students prepare for changing workplace requirements.
“I would like to congratulate UPES on being one of the first digital campuses on Google Cloud. The university’s leadership has demonstrated the vision and acumen to understand what AI can do for students and the opportunities it can create for them,” Srivastava said.
“We see UPES playing an important role not only in building the workforce of the future, but also in nurturing future job creators. Today, with the launch of the largest Gemini campus in northern India, we are very excited to partner with UPES and take this journey forward,” he added.
Through Gemini Enterprise, UPES students and faculty will be able to explore AI capabilities, develop AI powered solutions and experiment with tools for academic and research applications.
The university plans to use the technology alongside industry engagement and experiential learning as it expands the role of artificial intelligence within its academic environment.
