Produced by The Yellow Shutter, the short film uses AMD technology to present Onam stories in multiple languages, linking cultural tradition with digital tools
The festival of Onam is best known for its colours, food and folk tales. This year, it also carried a digital imprint. Social Panga, in association with AMD, has released a short film for the season that uses AI-based tools to carry the essence of Onam into different languages.
The film, produced by The Yellow Shutter, places AMD’s computing technology at its centre. By working with platforms such as Microsoft CoCreator, the project team translated the story of Onam into several Indian languages, aiming to make the celebration accessible beyond Kerala and its diaspora.
Creative leads at Social Panga said the purpose was to show how technology can help traditions travel farther. Rather than being restricted by a single language or region, the film’s Onam sequences were re-rendered to reach wider audiences while retaining the mood of the festival.
AMD representatives described the film as part of the company’s larger effort to show how AI can be applied outside technical fields. By positioning it in a cultural setting, the brand underlined the role of advanced computing in everyday life, including arts and festivals.
Industry observers noted that more Indian brands are now experimenting with AI-led creative work, but few have attempted to tie it directly to cultural festivals. The Onam film positions Social Panga and AMD among the first to make such a connection, bringing traditional content together with digital translation tools.
For viewers, the film appears as a seasonal greeting. For the industry, it marks another step in blending computing power with cultural storytelling.
