The award recognizes Shiv Nadar’s pioneering contribution to business and philanthropy
Shiv Nadar, Founder, HCL and Shiv Nadar Foundation, was honoured with the USISPF Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the technology industry and his philanthropic initiatives to transform lives through access to educational opportunities by the US – India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF).
A bilateral non-profit organization focused on building the strategic relationship between India and the United States.
Shiv Nadar founded HCL as well as the Shiv Nadar Foundation. HCL has continued to surf the waves of the evolving IT landscape under his leadership for almost 45 years and has been at the forefront of the technology revolution since 1976.
Throughout his career, he has recognised that successful institution building is contingent on producing new knowledge and forging result-oriented relationships.
Mr. Nadar, in addition to being a successful entrepreneur, has committed US$1.1 billion in philanthropic projects, primarily in education, through the Shiv Nadar Foundation.
The influence of Shiv Nadar Foundation institutions can be seen in the aspirations of meritorious students who began their journeys from humble, geographically remote origins but are now pursuing their dreams in India and abroad.

During my journey of building HCL, I realized that we also need to create leaders and innovators for tomorrow. With this belief and my mother’s encouragement, I started my philanthropic efforts through the Shiv Nadar Foundation. The educational institutions under the Foundation are focused on nurturing transformative leaders who can go on to positively impact many more lives. I hope that this award will inspire many young people to become entrepreneurs and also give back to the society.”
