The All-Time Greatest Slice of Life Anime (July 2022)

Slice-of-life anime elevates everyday occurrences with comedy, drama, romance, and other elements.

The slice of life genre can include funny comedy moments, serious drama, and even a touch of romance, depending on what viewers are searching for. Nonetheless, both fans and reviewers agree that certain programs are the cream of the crop and are more likely than others to be loved by those who give them a chance.

YuruYuri: Happy Go Lucky

A popular slice of life subgenre is “pretty females doing cute things,” and these anime usually provide exactly what they promise. YuruYuri appears to be a conventional example of this sort of fiction at first glance; it brings together four females with stereotyped characters and doesn’t accomplish much with them. At least for most of the anime’s first season.

YuruYuri swiftly and significantly improves after that moment. The show becomes increasingly bizarre as more peripheral characters appear to develop crushes on each other. It’s also consistently amusing.

Komi Can’t Communicate

Komi Can’t Communicate’s sophomore season, which premiered in Spring 2022, cemented the show’s place among the finest slice-of-life anime of the contemporary age. Shoko Komi has spent much of her life alone due to severe social anxiety; her quietness is misinterpreted as aloofness and snobbishness. Komi, determined to make a difference in high school, embarks on a trip to create a hundred friends, which begins when she befriends the unpopular Hitohito Tadano.

Komi Can’t Communicate is an upbeat sitcom that provides a genuine look at anxiousness, especially in the first few episodes. Komi and Tadano’s bond is endearing, and it prepares the way for the introduction of odder characters.

K-On!

K-On! is a slice-of-life classic that follows the daily lives of the members of the Light Music Club. Although there are noteworthy songs in the anime, music takes a back place to humor in K-On! All of the core characters are endearing by nature, and it’s a joy to see their friendships develop over the course of the two seasons and film.

Because of K-On’s success, !’s there have been many imitators, to the point that the series might feel a little by the numbers in this day and age. Nonetheless, it is one of the finest slice-of-life animes of the previous two decades.

 

Natsume’s Book Of Friends
Natsume, who can see Yokai, obtains a book from his grandmother that has the names of numerous spirits. This gives the owner of the book influence over the Yokai, making it a highly sought-after item in the spirit realm.
Natsume’s Book of Friends appears to have all the trappings of an action series, with one major difference: Natsume resolves to release the Yokai by restoring their names. Natsume’s Book of Friends progresses at a leisurely and steady pace, with the exception of the odd dramatic surge courtesy of a flashback or an unusually vicious Yokai. This animation is serene, moving, and exquisite.
Wagnaria!!
Most individuals have worked in the service business, such as a restaurant, at some point in their lives. Few, though, have had such a bizarre group of employees ties them up in progressively ridiculous shenanigans. How many kitchens have a floor chief who wields a katana?
Wagnaria!! Contains very amusing moments intercut with a backdrop that virtually anybody can relate to, making it incredibly rewarding to watch. It’s certain to make everyone grin.
Laid-Back Camp
Rin has only ever camped by herself at the base of Mount Fuji, but that is about to change. Due to a hiccup in her travel plans, she is forced to make friends with the only other person she can locate in order to survive.
There are plenty of camping trips to watch for viewers who fall in love with the program, with season 2 ranked among the finest slice-of-life comedy anime of 2021.
