Bengaluru: According to the survey, state capitals are among India’s most livable cities. However, according to the Ease of Living Index 2020, Delhi is not among the top five liveability means. According to the Centre’s latest assessment for Science and Environment (CSE), only three state capitals are in India’s top ten most liveable cities.
Delhi is ranked sixth, trailing Bengaluru, Chennai, Shimla, Bhubaneswar, and Mumbai. In reality, according to the perceptions of citizens polled, Delhi is the worst capital. Bengaluru obtained the highest ranking, followed by Chennai. Only Bengaluru has an excellent economic ability, scoring 78.8 out of 100, whereas the other four state capitals (Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad) have mediocre economic chances.

The findings are part of CSE’s latest report, State of India’s Environment 2021. The Ease of Living Index scores was determined based on four parameters: quality of life, economic ability, sustainability, and citizens. The cities were given scores on all four parameters out of 100. On the first three factors, Delhi obtained a score between 50 and 60, while on the residents’ perception poll, it received 69.4.
Five categories were used to rank the cities’ quality of governance: services, finance, technology, urban planning, and overall management.
Delhi fared highly in services, finance, and administration but had shallow 30 to 40 in urban planning and technology.
