The Metropolitan Opera sings the Ukrainian national song, which reminds viewers of the film ‘Casablanca’

Artworks from all around the world have paid respect to Ukrainians who are suffering due to the intensifying Russia-Ukraine war.

In sympathy with civilians in war-torn Ukraine, the famed Metropolitan Opera began their opening night staging of Don Carlos on Monday by singing the Ukrainian national anthem. Their tribute video quickly went popular on social media, with many netizens comparing it to a moment from the 1942 film Casablanca. An actor sings French La Marseillaise to drown out a German patriotic anthem.

According to NBC New York, one of the members was 24-year-old Vlad Buialskiy, whose entire family was in Ukraine during the battle. “I want to support my family and my nation as much as I can,” he told NBC. “But I’m here in this difficult time because all of my family and friends are here.”

The 141-year-old opera company recently issued a statement declaring that it will no longer work with artists who support Russian President Vladimir Putin. The opera house’s general manager, Peter Gelb, stated in a statement that the rest of the season will be dedicated to the “bravery of Ukrainian leadership, people, and artists.”

Earlier in the same vein, the hero in the funeral march scene of Götterdämmerung was draped in a Ukrainian flag by Teatro Real, a renowned opera theatre in Spain.
Before that, the choir of Great St Bartholomew, London’s oldest church, sang Ukraine’s national anthem at the commencement of their service on February 27.
The popular show Saturday Night Live launched their recent broadcast with a solemn by a group named Ukrainian Chorus Dumka of New York. Dressed in traditional Ukrainian garb, the group sang Prayer for Ukraine, a hymn written in 1885.
As the battle between Ukraine and Russia intensifies, an increasing number of institutions express their support for Ukrainian residents who are suffering due to the Russian invasion.
