When BTS’s Suga purchased lottery tickets out of desperation, he concealed a significant injury from Big Hit: Rapper’s difficult road to success

BTS’s rapper Min Yoon-gi, better known by his stage as Suga, is a mood,’ as ARMY refers to him. He has the quickest comebacks, likes his sleep, doesn’t fool about as much as his other members (though he might occasionally), and keeps quiet during group interviews. However, he is remembered most for defying the band members and silencing trolls and critics who have attacked the band several times. ARMY remembers Suga stopping singing in the middle of a concert to deliver a message to people who accused them of lip-syncing.

In short, there are various reasons why he is popular among the majority of the ARMY.
The starting point

Like his fellow members, Suga had spoken about the arduous trials he suffered as a kid, through his idol trainee days, when he had no financial assistance and had to perform a variety of odd jobs. He grew interested in music during his academic years.
I’d heard a lot of these. However, he was frequently advised that it was not a practical alternative. “We’re often warned that you’ll make your family broke if you pursue anything like music,” he stated during one of his live sessions.

Later, he revealed that his parents desired that he have a secure position as a public servant. “They were extremely against me making music for half a year, and I was hit.” We fought. I did all of that, and that’s how I made music. They’re now going about boasting.”

Suga was looking for a job in a music studio while still in school. While underground rappers sought to collaborate with him, he was not compensated. He authored lyrics and created tunes. He began rhyming and performing, but he received no compensation. He revealed to Grazia that his work was such that, although working in a studio, he received no revenue and found it impossible to pay for food and other necessities.

Developing becoming an idol trainee
Suga had tried out for the role of producer, but Big Hit wanted him as an idol trainee. Recognizing that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, he resolved to seize it. He was ‘forced to dance’ before he realized it, which he wasn’t used to. “They had me dance, and they wouldn’t allow me out of the hostel for three years,” he recalled.
His trainee days were just as stressful, if not more so because he had no revenue. Later, he admitted to his bandmates that he would buy lottery tickets out of desperation. “When we were trainees, I felt so helpless. Every week, I bought one lotto ticket.” He even stated that the figures would be released in his dreams.
“It would appear as a pig and tell me the numbers in Korean.” He became a delivery boy and was involved in an accident in which he hurt his shoulder. Suga lied to his bandmates about falling down the stairs when, in fact, he was involved in an accident. I couldn’t move my shoulder the next day. I did not inform the agency. I figured if I told them, they’d let me leave.”
Debut and eventual celebrity
After their debut, the band was dissatisfied since none of their songs could generate any form of buzz. Later, he recalls wondering why they weren’t successful in their early days despite all their hard effort. Suga was significantly impacted because he was the producer and one of BTS’s composers, and he would stay up for hours and days without sleep to concentrate on his songs. Suga’s songs represented his rage, despair, and depression. In 2018, he openly discussed his mental health concerns, saying, “Anxiety and loneliness appear to stay with me for life.”
“With my lyrics, I wanted to communicate I am nervous, and so are you,” he continued. Let’s figure out how to learn together.” In 2022, he told Vogue Korea, “I channeled my fury and inferiority mentality into most of my songs, and it directed me from the beginning till today.”
BTS is now a global K-Pop hit, and Suga is regarded as one of the most popular rappers, with his mixtapes reaching the top of the Billboard charts.
