The Arts Trust pays tribute to seminal artist Bikash Bhattacharjee artworks from 1950-2000

One of the finest artists to emerge from India, Bikash Bhattacharjee was credited with reviving realism through his masterful works in oil and capturing the aspirations, fears, and dualities of the inhabitants of Bengal in his art.

His evolution as an artist occurred in tandem with his constant engagement with regard to the discovery of his protagonists.

Revered for his ability to animate the emotions of his adopted subjects, he established an image by expressing the empathy he experienced for them with complex technical processes.

The selection of works in the first volume of the exhibition covers Bikash Bhattacharjee’s art practice from 1950 to 2000 and gives a great insight into his evolution in terms of medium, subject matter, and inspirations.

The exhibition is a great opportunity for art lovers to explore the trajectory of the artist’s career with works ranging from different phases including his early works.

The selection for the exhibition also includes paintings from some of his groundbreaking series such as ‘She,’ ‘Doll,’ and ‘Durga’ series amongst others.
