The Mumbai police department tweeted ahead of the Oscars event that the city had endorsed a dog for the title of ‘Best Actor In A Leading Role.’

The tweet was accompanied by a dog image like the poster for the Oscar-nominated film The Power of the Dog.

The Mumbai police force’s fondness for dogs is not new. Simba, one of the dogs at the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, was honored with a gun salute earlier this month after passing away.
The Power of the Dog, a western psychological drama, received 12 Academy Award nominations. Later that day, its director, Jane Campion, received the Academy Award for Best Director, becoming only the third woman to do so.
The Mumbai police had previously utilized the context of the Academy Awards in their tweets. In 2017, they sent out a humorous tweet in response to the now-iconic gaffe declaring La La Land as the Best Picture Oscar winner instead of Moonlight. In 2019, they referenced Period to demonstrate their affection for Mumbai. End of a Sentence received an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short.
