Abhiruchi Singh is a Mumbai-based singer, songwriter, and live performer. She started her professional musical journey at the age of seven with a song she sang for an MTV short movie and later gained popularity when she recorded the remix version of the superhit ‘Pani Da Rang’ with Ayushmann Khurrana.

Can you tell us about your journey before joining the music industry?

I grew up in Bareilly, UP with my parents, my elder sister, and younger brother. Since my parents also sing, I got the gift of music from them. I have been singing since childhood and with the constant support and encouragement from my family, I could finally come to Mumbai to pursue it as a career.

What made you decide to pursue a career in the music industry?

Purely my love for music. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else all my life, I just knew that I wanted to sing, tell stories, convey emotions and make people feel something through my words and my voice.

Where did you learn singing, and is there anyone you admire in this field?

I am not formally trained in music so far but it’s extremely important to have a guru. I am going to start learning now but I feel, as an artist, you also learn a lot by just listening to and observing other artists, so there is constant learning from so many singers, and musicians around.

Which skills have you gained that help you perform effectively as a singer?

There are certain sets of skills that you need to perform in the studio and on the stage when you’re singing live in front of an audience. I have learned many techniques through experience over the years but singing from the heart, connecting with the listeners, and being prepared and confident is the key.

What would you like to tell us about your journey in the music industry? Is there any biggest career highlight so far?

Like I mentioned before, I have been singing since I was a child but the first time I took part in a singing competition and won a prize was when I was 7 years old. I kept participating in competitions throughout my school and college life, however, the big break was when I was called to sing the official remix of the superhit song ‘Pani da rang’ with Ayushmann Khurrana.

Did you have any bad experiences? If yes, how did you deal with it?
I think we all have good and bad experiences in whatever we do. I have had some disappointing experiences too in the course of my journey but what kept me going was faith and belief in myself and my art. Also, I have been grateful to have my family and friends who were always there to help me through tough times.
What would you like to tell us about your journey in the music industry?
Even after recording songs with Nikhil DSouza, and Ayushmann Khurrana; for movies, TV, and digital media, I feel my musical journey has just begun. I have evolved as an artist and a lot of my original music is about to be released, so I’m excited about that.
Which song do you like of yours and why?
Since firsts are always special, I think I really like my first song that I wrote and composed all by myself. It’s called Chalo Chalein. It’s a love ballad that talks about finding refuge from reality and creating a world where only love prevails. I released it during the pandemic on my YouTube channel.
What all challenges do you face while practicing and during recording sessions?
Challenges can always come up in the form of technical glitches, sickness, or just a bad day. So as artists, we need to be prepared for things like that.
Social media helps reach a large audience, so how did social media help you?
Social media is truly a blessing for artists if used in the correct way to portray your talent and connect with your potential audience. I have always been active on social media portals but posting my videos on Moj and getting instant feedback from the audience has helped me grow, improve and also understand the pulse of my listeners.
Which were the ad jingles and anthem you lent your voice?
I have sung the official remix of Pani Da Rang with Ayushmann Khurrana, the movie version of the song Din Shagna da from the film Phillauri, a love anthem for Romedy Now, and many ad jingles and songs for TV shows too.
What was the response of people during the pandemic?
The pandemic was a stressful time for everybody but I tried to keep myself and my audiences busy by recording and posting songs on social media and going live. The response was great. It also gave me an opportunity to connect with them on a personal level and that was truly heartwarming.
How do you feel about releasing new original songs this year?
I am extremely excited to put out new music. I’m slightly nervous too but I am hoping that people would connect with my songs and enjoy listening to them. Make sure you stay updated by following my posts on social media accounts. My username is – @abhiruchimusic
