After the war ended, The Austrian National Day was occupied by four nations – the Soviet Union, the United States, Great Britain, and France(Allied forces). They divided Austria into 4 regions. Vienna was also divided into four zones. “Allied Control Council” jointly administered the historic central district.

On October 26, 1955, the constitutional law on permanent neutrality was passed by the Austrian Parliament. This day came to be celebrated as the Austrian National day in 1965. Austrian Embassies around the world host a number of different events for Austrian citizens on this day.
