1 in a million: A five-legged lamb is born in the United Kingdom

If the extra limb creates difficulties, the lamb may require surgery.

A lamb with an additional leg protruding from its left side was born on a farm in Morpeth, UK. The owners of Whitehouse Farm, where the unique lamb was born, have been inundated with visitors wanting to meet the unnamed baby.

The farm’s owner, Heather Horgarthy, told Chronicle Live, “You could see it (the additional leg) just when it came into being.” It’s on the front left side, so it’s essentially another leg emerging from the shoulder.”

Animals born with such malformations experience medical issues and must undergo surgery. We’re just looking after this one right now, so the leg may have to be amputated.” Horgarthy, who last saw Quinto, a five-legged lamb, over ten years ago, told media that the animal had a long and healthy life after its additional leg was surgically removed. Horgarthy expressed his hope that this animal will live a regular life as well, saying, “We think as long as it will live a normal life, we will just keep it.”

She also mentioned that five-legged lambs are incredibly rare, with only one in a million lambs born with five legs.
In January of this year, a calf with three eyes was born in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. People speculated that the birth of a calf with three eyes was an incarnation of Lord Shiva, who is fabled to have “trinetra,” or three eyes.
