Dermatologist discusses various probable causes of brow thinning

Eyebrows assist in framing our faces, making them look sculpted and symmetrical. It’s no surprise that we all want thick, full brows. However, like hair on the scalp, brow hair is prone to thin.

Eyebrow thinning can occur to various causes, ranging from infections and skin diseases to hormonal changes. Dermatologist Dr. Aanchal Panth recently addressed this topic on Instagram, listing some typical explanations.

Thyroid dysfunction

“The most prevalent culprit is thyroid dysfunction,” says the specialist. She explained that both an overactive and an underactive thyroid might cause hair loss. However, if you see your brows thinning, this is typically the latest indication. Alopecia areata

The most typical cause of thinning brows is a hair-loss disorder known as ‘Alopecia areata.’ “This is an autoimmune disorder in which the body’s immune system incorrectly assaults the hair follicles, resulting in hair loss,” she stated.

Aging
Another factor that might be causing your brows to be too thin is age. Dr. Panth said that your brows would become scantier around 45.
According to Healthline, additional causes of eyebrow thinning include nutrient shortages, eczema, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, and ringworm.
