Instead of meditation, Google CEO Sundar Pichai relies on ‘NSDR’ to unwind – Find out what it is.

Most of us know that work entails a great deal of responsibility and stress. CEOs all over the world swear by meditation to combat work-related stress. Google CEO Sundar Pichai, on the other hand, relaxes using a lesser-known technique.

Pichai uses non-sleep deep rest, or NSDR, to unwind, as he revealed in an interview with an international daily. Stanford neuroscience professor Andrew Huberman coined the term, which he defines as “self-inducing a state of calm” and “directing our focus to something.”

Pichai reveals his secret relaxation technique, saying, “Pichai found these non-sleep deep rest podcasts or SDRs.” So, while it’s difficult for me to meditate, I can go to YouTube and find an NSDR video. I do that occasionally because they are available in 10, 20, or 30 minutes.”

According to Professor Huberman, NSDR assists people in relaxing and falling asleep more easily. It alleviates stress and anxiety, relieves pain, and enhances learning abilities. It can be accomplished through two NSDR “protocols,” according to Huberman: yoga Nidra and hypnosis.

Yoga Nidra is a strategy in which you fib flat on your back on the ground, usually with your eyes closed, and follow the instructions of an instructor, either virtually or in person. The instructor will guide you through a variety of activities.

According to Tracee Stanley, a yoga Nidra instructor, you may be asked to scan for areas of tension, focus on your breathing, bring your awareness to several body parts, or begin diaphragmatic breathing. These actions must be carried out to ” give the mind something to focus on.”

Following these instructions allows your body to relax and your heart rate to slow.

This may also shift your brain from beta waves associated with an active mind to alpha locks associated with a better-relaxed state of mind.

According to Stanley, yoga Nidra may cause you to be “in a liminal space between being awake and falling asleep.” Your body may physically sleep while you continue to “maintain awareness both internally and simultaneously being aware of your surroundings.”
Huberman describes the other protocol – hypnosis – as “a state of calm and high focus.” It can be done with the contribution of a clinical hypnotist, or it can be done on one’s own operating mesmerizing apps or videos.
“It’s like looking at something via a telephoto lens,” Huberman explained further. You’re getting rid of the surround. So it’s a state of intense concentration, which is usually associated with a high level of excitement or stress. However, hypnosis is a unique state in which you have a high level of focus while remaining very relaxed.”
