The 2nd edition of the ASEAN-India Artists’ Camp honours the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-India ties

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-India dialogue relations, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Seher launched the second edition of the ASEAN-India Artists’ Camp on October 10, 2022, at the Taj Ambassador in New Delhi.

Shri. Saurabh Kumar, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, was the principal guest, and officials from the MEA, diplomats, and guests from ASEAN Missions to India were in attendance.

The event’s theme is ‘Oceans of Connectivity,’ which simply refers to the oceans that these ASEAN countries share.

  • After the successful first edition, the Ministry of External Affairs has partnered with Seher to celebrate 30 years of the India-ASEAN relationship with the ASEAN-India artists’ camp
  • Artists from Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam, besides India, are participating in the 9-day camp
  • Secretary (EAST) Ministry of External Affairs Shri. Saurabh Kumar, other senior officials from MEA, ambassadors and guests from the ASEAN Missions to India were present

The ASEAN artists and Indian artists were introduced to MEA officials and other guests during the inauguration.

The ten ASEAN artists taking part in the camp are as follows: SamritKeo (M) from Cambodia, Eddy Sulistyo (M) from Indonesia, Melissa Abuga-a (F) – Philippines 4. Myanmar, Aye MyatSoe (F), 5. Brunei Darussalam’s Nabil Fikri Bin Haronli (M).

Sone Khounpaseuth (F) – Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, EdrogerRosili (M), Nguyen Phuong Linh (F) of Vietnam and PhattarapornLeanpanit (M) of Thailand round out the top ten.

Sonika Agarwal (F), JapaniShyam (F), Nupur Kundu (F), Laishram Meena Devi (F), Anjum Khan (F), Nin Taneja (F) (F), Vanita Gupta (F), Yogendra Tripathi (M), Mayur Kailash Gupta (M), Dileep Dharma (M), and Basant Bhargav (M) have all joined the camp.

The camp will also include a variety of interdisciplinary activities for the visiting artists, exposing them to different forms of Indian arts and traditions.

This camp will include lectures, demonstrations, seminars, discussions, and other educational visits. One of the mentors at the camp is well-known painter Samindranath Majumdar.

“This artist camp is an important youth-centric activity to bring together the convergence of creative energy from the ten ASEAN countries and India as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-India dialogue relations.” Improving people-to-people and cultural ties between India and ASEAN is a key component of present ASEAN-India relations. The artists camp aims to carry on the legacy of creative interchange between India and ASEAN, while also serving as a conduit to improve understanding between our two peoples.”

Secretary (East) MEA, Shri. Saurabh Kumar, stated,

“The second edition of ASEAN-India Artists’ Camp clearly reveals that the first edition was a roaring success in bringing individuals from India and the ASEAN countries together, The camp will be held in Udaipur, where artists will produce work, spend time with one another, and share ideas. They will also become acquainted with all of the participating countries’ rich cultural traditions and history.”

The nine-day program will be held at the Taj Aravali Resort in Udaipur, where artists will work on their pieces to create inspiring works of art.

During their stay, the artists will interact and participate in panel discussions on various issues, as well as visit stunning spots in Udaipur, such as The City Palace, Pichola Lake, and the city market.
The artworks will be displayed at the site for people and the local city administration on October 19th.
