With the resumption of international flights operations in India ahead of the upcoming summer vacation season, San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is excited to welcome Indian travellers and offer them a high-quality airport experience. With seamless access, thoughtful amenities, sustainable design and inspiring artwork and exhibits, SFO is well-equipped to cater to the needs and interests of its guests and ensure safety and hygiene. If you are a fully vaccinated tourist, SFO is ready to welcome you.
From a range of global cuisine- a sneak peek of what the city brings to the table (quite literally so!), an aviation museum for the ‘avgeeks’ and art exhibits for the art buffs, to cozy lounges, secret gardens, yoga rooms and comfort dogs for tired travellers- SFO has it all.
Here are some of the ways you can make the most of your time and indulge in some of the unique experiences at SFO.
Shop, Dine and Relax
SFO has an eclectic mix of bookstores, gift shops, travel outfitters, designer brands and luxury boutiques. Many retailers are local, featuring authentic San Francisco souvenirs and merchandise.
San Francisco and the Bay Area are world-famous for local, fresh cuisine. Whether you are hurrying for a quick snack before a flight or have time for a leisurely meal, you will enjoy delicious choices at SFO. Nearly all airport eateries are branches of local restaurants, bars and cafés to offer a real taste of San Francisco, no matter where you are heading next.
And if you are in the mood for a manicure, facial or massage, at SFO, you will enjoy airport services that go far beyond the ordinary.
Art at SFO
SFO is committed to providing its guests with world-class facilities and customer service. To help meet this goal, SFO incorporates art throughout the terminals, fostering an environment that is both entertaining and educational.
The works of art at SFO are made possible through two distinct programs: SFO Museum and the San Francisco Arts Commission. SFO Museum, a division of SFO, presents a series of rotating exhibitions displayed in the terminal galleries, as well as the San Francisco Airport Commission Aviation Library and Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum located in the International Terminal. The San Francisco Arts Commission, an agency of the City and County of San Francisco, curates the collection of permanent art displayed throughout the airport.
Day Trips
For passengers with a layover of four hours or more who wish to explore the City of San Francisco and the San Francisco Bay Area via public transit, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) takes visitors from SFO’s International Terminal nearly to the doorstep of several top attractions in San Francisco. A BART ride to downtown San Francisco’s Union Square shopping district takes about 30 minutes (Powell Street Station).
Services and amenities
SFO offers services that go far beyond the ordinary. Special efforts are made to ensure that your time at the airport is time well spent. Everything a passenger needs for travel is here, like currency exchange offices, banking services and free Wi-Fi access. In addition, conveniently located at the entrance to the Airport, the Grand Hyatt at SFO hotel can be easily accessed from all terminals by the Air Train, SFO’s free people mover, or by the road.
