Swami Sivananda’s Yoga, Celibacy, And Diet Made Him A Padma Awardee A 125-Year-Old Icon.

Swami Sivananda, a 125-year-old yogi, captivated the attention of everyone inside Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Darbar Hall on Monday.

He bowed down in front of the Prime Minister and President before and after accepting the award, dressed simply in a white kurta and dhoti. Sivananda is currently the oldest person to receive the Padma Shri honor. The yogi was born in the Sylhet area of Bangladesh in August 1896 and attributed his long life to his grasp of yoga.

Sivananda arrived in Omkarananda Goswami’s ashram in Nabadwip, West Bengal, after the loss of his parents. According to Prittle Prattle, he still gets up at 3 a.m. and follows a strict regimen. He grew up on nothing but boiling rice water since he lost his mother and father when he was six years old. There was no hanging back for him after that.

In terms of his nutrition, he now only eats oil-free foods and believes in solely helping the disadvantaged.

Swami has often attributed his youth to yoga, discipline, and the celibacy vow. ‘The world is my home, its inhabitants are my dads and mothers, and to love and serve them is my religion,’ he thinks.
Since his early years at the ashram, the yogi has practiced and taught Yoga in Kashi ghats. Furthermore, he has assisted leprosy patients in Puri for 50 years.
Swami Sivananda has received several honors, including the Yoga Ratna Award in 2019. Furthermore, he was the country’s senior-most participant in the yoga demonstration on World Yoga Day on June 21, 2019.
