Menstrual cramps are aching, thrilling cramps you get in your lower abdomen just before & on your periods.

Cramps range from mild to severe. With growing age cramps usually become less painful & may also stop entirely after you have your first baby. Cramps feel like a pressure in your belly. Also somedays you may have vomiting & upset stomach.

Here are few things you can do to avoid cramps during your periods:

  • Take a warm bath so that it helps in removal of body odour and it feels rejuvenating, refreshing. Try keeping a heating pad on your stomach also take a hot shower or relaxing in a hot bath
  • You should do light exercises which will build your strength and enhances to keep stress and anxiety away. Yoga can also help in reducing menstrual cramps. Exercises might be the last thing you can do if you’re in pain. Gentle exercises helps to release endorphins that will make you feel happy, reduce pain & relax your muscles.
  • Since your body loses blood, you should eat more of iron rich whole foods.
  • Massage your belly with essential oils for 20 mins. Massages reduces uterine spasms by relaxing the uterus. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, imagine a calm simply.
  • Avoid salty foods, caffeine, alcohol and fatty foods that can cause bloating, water retention and discomfort. Eat anti-inflammatory foods that will help in blood flow and relax your uterus. Eat berries, tomatoes, pineapples and spices like turmeric, ginger or garlic also green leafy vegetables, almonds, walnuts and fatty fish, like salmon, can also help reduce inflammation.
  • Drink plenty amount of water to stay hydrated because when your body becomes dehydrated then there are chances of having more abdominal cramps. Bloating causes discomfort & tends to make menstrual cramps even worse.
