Leaders in Europe want Zelensky has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has gained widespread support for his leadership during the conflict with Russia.

Some members of the European Parliament and a number of European nations have requested the Nobel Committee to consider him and the Ukrainian people for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The letter to the Nobel Committee went as follows: “Ukraine’s brave men and women are battling for democracy and self-government. People across Ukraine are rising up to reject the forces of authoritarianism, from democratically elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s resistance to a weeping man bidding farewell to his family to fight for his homeland.”

Following the submission of the letter to the Committee, the phrase “Nobel Peace Prize” began trending on Twitter, and several individuals voiced their support for the idea. The users commended the people of Ukraine and Zelensky for his leadership during a difficult era. They asked that the Nobel Prize selection system be reopened and prolonged until March 31.

The following is the substance of the letter that was sent, as reported by various media outlets:
“Given historically exceptional developments, we humbly propose that the Nobel Peace Prize Committee examine and reassess the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize nomination procedure.”
The pictures of conflict emanating from Ukraine have startled the globe. Millions of families live in dread, their homes and livelihoods under threat from bombs and an invading army. We have witnessed the bravery of the Ukrainian people in repelling the Russian Federation’s war.
At this time, democratic individuals worldwide are asking the same question: what can we do to help the people of Ukraine?
We accept that now is the time to show the Ukrainian people that the rest of the world is on their side. As a result, we respectfully solicit that the Committee considers the following:
Extend and so reopen the Nobel Peace Prize nomination system until March 31, 2022, to allow President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people to be nominated.
Although we recognize that this is a deviation from the procedure, we think it is warranted given the current unusual situation. It is our democratic obligation to oppose tyranny and to stand in solidarity with those struggling for democracy and the right to self-government.”
