Green Habits Are Required For A Green Nation: Here Are 11 Green Habits To Save The Environment

In its different manifestations, such as Green plants, trees, rivers, mountains, and more, Mother-earth is revered in Indian civilization.

Our solid cultural beliefs have instilled environmental stewardship in our daily lives. The notion that the cosmos comprises five essential elements, namely earth, air, water, fire, and space, derives from this belief. We worship the five elements (Panch-Bhutas) in all of their forms, including trees, air, soil, rivers, mountains, and animals.

This eco-cultural attitude is one of the most critical environmental ideals we can promote in a world on the verge of a climatic disaster. Even the Indian Constitution entrenched these ideals in the chapter on fundamental obligations, which assigns the duty of environmental protection to every person. “Every citizen of India shall have the duty to safeguard and improve the natural environment, including forests, lakes, rivers, and animals, and have compassion for living creatures,” according to Article 51-A (g).

However, because of the increasing growth of consumerism, a chasm is forming between the Indian culture’s environmental value system and its practical implementation. And unfortunately, this chasm is widening every day, resulting in a climate emergency. As a result, we’ve contaminated our food, land, air, and even water.

According to one study, the average per capita garbage creation per day in major Indian cities is 0.62 kilos! The moot topic is whether environmental degradation is just the government’s responsibility and the ‘implementation’ of its policies or whether it is the responsibility of citizens’ education. Is there anything I can do on a personal level? Is it possible for me to change the situation?

If that’s the case, what’s the best way to go about it? Green Habits, which are tiny actionable and realistic activities in the direction of making India a green country, can help residents achieve this.

Habits of a Green Country
Green habits are ecologically friendly behaviors that can help us minimize our carbon footprints by reducing the influence of our actions on the environment. It may also aid in the restoration of the ecological balance that we have lost. The ten national green habits are as follows.
Switching Off Unnecessary Electric Equipment is a Habit
Does power generation account for over 40% of worldwide carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions? If you ask me what one national habit should be included in school curricula, families, and workplace practice, I would say this habit. This habit asks us to turn off any electrical equipment, appliances, or lights that are not in use at the time. These electronic devices can be found in various locations, including the home, the office, public spaces, and other places. Turning off lamps, equipment, and appliances when not in use is an easy and inexpensive way to lessen your carbon footprint. By turning off ten bulbs, you can save an average of Rs 3240 per capita! Consider the total annual national savings, as high as Rs 42400 crores.
Reduce the number of edibles you throw out.
Do you realize that a third of all food produced in the world is thrown away? That would feed three billion people! According to one study, the average Indian wastes 137 grams of food every day. This equates to 0.96 kilograms every week or 50 kilograms per year. In India, 40% of food is thrown away, costing Rs 92,000 crores each year. Imagine how much food is wasted at social occasions such as weddings and other ceremonies. We can be more aware of how much food we squander. When eating out, we should monitor our portion sizes, and at home, we should check our food servings. New, untouched, and safe food should be donated to food banks to aid those in need.
