What it takes to be Women Entrepreneur?

Mukta is a dynamic women leader who heads Konnections IMAG, one of the leading communication consultancy . Here is a glimpse of her journey and life lessons

Growing up in Delhi in a middle class surrounding with working parents entrepreneurship was not even in my dreams. Being the youngest in the family, childhood was full of love and naughtiness with some big time lessons from my mother to give up my recalcitrant mannerism and behave more ladylike Entrepreneur . I categorially remember that our household was always very systemically drawn , with my mom making sure that each one of us does our bit. The strong sense of discipline and timing I have inherited  from my mother who used to wonderfully manage her work, home, including me and my elder brother and of course my DAD

Having completed my Hons in Economics I decided to pursue Business management as I was intrigued to understand the science of running businesses. The days in business school were fun with friends , books and lots of parties , dinners and unlimited chatter. My Entrepreneur internship was a big turning point for my career especially my time at Ogilvy gave a strong foundation of work dynamics and industry understanding.  The initial years of my career at Ogilvy and then Lintas were just amazing with wonderful colleagues and mentors who supported me and helped me grow. Marrying Anurag my husband was one of the best decisions of my life as he proved to be more than a handsome husband but a caring life and now business partner.

Moving to Hyderabad in 2006 was sudden and completely unplanned.  What started as a simple job transfer of my husband and me trying to explore a new city turned out to be life changing experience.  Losing my mother to a prolonged illness was a big shocker but it strengthen my relationship with my father  who became my mentor and friend. Someone who helped me overcome my fears and accept my greys as a part of who I am. He has been my pillar of strength and an anchor to me since then.

After spending few years in Hyderabad I started my entrepreneurial journey in 2010 by setting up Konnections and since then there has been no looking back. Being a    headstrong woman  my  family was very worried about my decision .  For me, to setup a communication agency it was extremely difficult as it is not easy to convince people of your capabilities. It has taken a lot of perseverance and dedication to Entrepreneur establish Konnections IMAG to its present level. Had it not been for the support and encouragement of my father and my family , I would never have embarked on my entrepreneurial journey and would have been still slogging in a corporate job. Having worked in top communication agencies it felt like stepping back few years and compromising on a lavish lifestyle to establish Konnections and create a brand identity.

My message to all future women leaders is that they should always remember their struggles as they celebrate their achievements and help the next generation of women leaders take on the journey.Entrepreneur  Be confident  about your decisions and choices and give full importance to your family as one cannot fly alone and need a comfortable nest to lay down after a grinding day . Be strong …
