Is MVA Tripping in the Three-Legged Race?

If there’s one thing that keeps the Maharashtra administration in the headlines, it’s the cat-and-mouse game between MVA allies who appear to be undecided about their power structure.
Two days after Maharashtra President Minister Uddhav Thackeray stated he was politically opposed to the Congress and NCP, his partners, state Congress chief Nana Patole sparked an uproar by accusing NCP patriarch Sharad Pawar of having “remote control” over the government. Pawar also discounted Patole’s repeated declaration that the Congress, a constituent of the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government with the NCP, will run alone in future elections. “Every political party has the right to broaden its support base, and there is nothing wrong with that. The Shiv Sena and Congress both took such a stance. The NCP has taken the same stance (in terms of broadening the party’s base),” he added, adding that while the three parties are running the government together, their organizations are distinct. Patole, for example, has always had his sights set on the allies.
Patole made a stir earlier this year when he stated that his party would run for the upcoming Assembly elections on its own and install a Congress chief minister. He’s also stated that if the party permits, he’ll be the next main ministerial face. “We have previously stated that we would run alone in the upcoming local body elections, which are expected to begin in November, as well as the Assembly elections that will follow. We don’t want to leave our allies in the dark and abandon them before the election.
