The viral photo of a top Hizbul commander slain in a clash in J&K is really of an ISIS terrorist named Top.

Mehrazuddin Halwai alias Ubaid, a Hizbul Mujahideen leader, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara area on Wednesday, authorities said.

Several media outlets and Twitter users shared the news of his encounter, with one user claiming to be Ubaid. Riyaz Naikoo, the terror group Hizbul Mujahideen and one of Kashmir’s most wanted terrorists, was killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir this morning. Naikoo, alias Mohammed Bin Qasim, was a close aide of senior Hizbul leader Burhan Wani, who was killed in July 2016. Naikoo, aka Mohammed Bin Qasim, was sought in 11 terror-related crimes and had a 12 lakh bounty on his head.

He is seen snapping a selfie in a vehicle while carrying a gun in the widely shared photo. In the photograph, he is also wearing spectacles.

Aditya Raj Kaul, a CNN-News18 contributor, also tweeted the photograph with the caption: “In Kashmir, a top Hizbul terrorist was murdered. In Handwara, North Kashmir, a major terror commander, MehrajuDin Halwai, was killed in an early morning encounter with security troops. Burhan Wani was his contemporary. On the instructions of Hizbul Chief Syed Salahuddin, Halwai murdered Kashmiris.”

Around 2014-15, the photograph appeared on the internet. According to a BBC story from September 2015, the man in the picture is Hussain alias Abu Saeed al Britani, one of 700 Britons who traveled to Syria and Iraq to join terrorist groups.

According to the investigation, Hussain was active on social media at the time and had urged for terror strikes. In conversations with the BBC, he also threatened Britain and advocated beheadings.

Hussain was born in the Buckinghamshire town of High Wycombe. Before joining ISIS, he worked as a security guard at Morrisons, a British grocery business.
