On Friday, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, the founder and executive chairman of Biocon Limited,
stated that there is now enough evidence to suggest that giving two separate vaccination injections to protect against Covid-19 is even better.
“There is a need to mix and match studies to allow for faster vaccinations,” Shaw said, adding, “There is enough evidence today to show that giving two distinct vaccine injections is even better.” Most vaccinations are expected to last at least a year, if not longer.”
The formal launch of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine in India was announced by the national government last week. After Covishield, Covaxin, and Sputnik, Moderna’s vaccine will be the fourth Covid-19 vaccine accessible in the United States. The attention has now moved to the Pfizer vaccine, which is also anticipated to be accessible in the nation soon due to this decision.
“Pfizer should receive clearance once Moderna gets approval,” Shaw told CNBC. Moderna does not have to be made in India; it may be imported.”
“It will be excellent to produce mRNA vaccines in India, even if it is still filling and finish,” she said, adding that she couldn’t comment on whether Biocon would engage in vaccine imports.
Biocon, Shaw’s Bengaluru-based company, manufactures APIs, small molecules, biologics, and other biopharmaceutical products.
On June 21, India set a world record for the most anti-coronavirus vaccinations in a single day, administering over 86 lakh anti-coronavirus vaccines in a single day. According to the Unio, India’s immunization rate has fallen by 68 percent in just over a week, with just 27.6 lakh shots administered on Wednesday.
In India, a new centralized free coronavirus vaccination program went into effect on June 21. Everyone over the time of 18 is eligible for free vaccinations under this program. The Union government is currently purchasing 75% off vaccinations and distributing them to states for free. The Centre took over because the prior strategy of allowing states to acquire a portion of their needs directly from corporations significantly impacted the immunization campaign.
Between January 16, when the vaccine campaign began, and June 30, when it ended, India vaccinated an average of 20.22 lakh people each day.
