  1. Rawas – Salmon is one of the most widely consumed edible fish. Rawas, as it is known in India, is a popular fish known for its pink to orange meat and mild flavor. Rawas is an oily fish, which means it has oil practically everywhere on its body, including the tissues and the abdominal cavity. A salmon fillet (a boneless portion of meat) contains around 30 percent fat. The oil is crucial in Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin A, and Vitamin D. Even though salmon is low in mercury, it may contain other pollutants such as PCBs. So don’t eat more than 170 grams of salmon every week.
  2. Katla – It is a freshwater fish found in lakes and rivers in North India and Assam. A mature fish can weigh up to 2 kg on average. Katla is a prevalent oily fish. It is high in protein and vital fatty acids. Katla has an Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio of 0.7, which is acceptable enough. It is a mild mercury content fish. Depending on the environment, it contains between 0.09 and 0.20 ppm of mercury. The fish is safe to consume if the amount is moderate. You can combine it with some low-mercury seafood to meet your weekly limit.
  3. Rohu –It is a member of the Carp family as well. It is a freshwater fish that may be found in both Northern and Central India. The fish is commonly consumed for its meat due to its typical weight of up to 2 kilos. Nevertheless, it is a fatty fish; it is too high in Omega fatty acids. Rohu is one of the most excellent solutions for Indians because it is conveniently accessible and reasonably priced. This fish, like Katla, has a moderate mercury content and is hence safe to eat.
