Another construction milestone has been reached at Kolkata’s Airport Metro Station.

The Kolkata Metro’s Line 6 is a still-under-construction rapid transit line that will connect New Garia to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport via two satellite towns, Salt Lake and New Town. There will be 24 stations in all. In 2021, the line from Kavi Subhash to Hemanta Mukherjee is expected to open.

The highest slab was started in December of last year. After the lockdown ended, 20 transit mixer machines and 1400 cubic meters of concrete were used to finish the job. The roof of the Airport Metro Station had been completed just a few days before. The 40-meter-long, one-foot-thick, 36-meter-wide top took around 25 hours to construct. According to Metro authorities, the concrete roof construction was a substantial technical difficulty.

Overall, the Noapara-Airport Metro line has progressed significantly. The tunnel is being built in the region close to Gate No. 1, directly next to the airport. Local trains used to travel on this route from Dumdum Cantonment to the airport until 2016.

Along with this, work on the subway connecting the airport station to Jessore Road has begun. This year, work on a metro line connecting Noapara and Dakshineswar will begin. The Noapara-airport metro service, on the other hand, will start as soon as the construction work is done.
