Akshaya Tritiya is among the holiest and most good days marked by Hindus. It is believed that whatever forms on this day will always be victorious. As a result, this day means good fortune, prosperity, and wealth gains.
On the three days of Shukla paksha of the Indian calendar of Vaisakh, Akshaya Tritiya is observed. This occurs in April and May, according to the Gregorian calendar. Both the Sun and the Moon are believed to be at their planetary best on this day. This day is also directed as ‘Akha Teej.’
This day observes several vital occasions in mythology and old history.
- On this day, Lord Ganesha and Ved Vyasa began composing the epic Mahabharata. This day is also honored as the birth anniversary of Lord Parashurama, Lord Vishnu’s sixth avatar.
- Goddess Annapurna was born on this day. On this day, Lord Krishna conferred wealth and monetary gains on his beleaguered companion Sudama, who had come to his aid.
According to the Mahabharata, Lord Krishna delivered the ‘Akshaya Patra to the Pandavas while they were in exile on this day. He gifted them with this bowl, which would continue to generate infinite food, never leaving them hungry. That day, the Ganges River fell from heaven to earth. Kubera worshipped Goddess Lakshmi on this day, and as a result, he was appointed Treasurer of the Gods. This day is marked in Jainism to celebrate Lord Adinatha, their first God.
Rituals Observed During Akshaya Tritiya
On this day, devotees of Vishnu fast to honor the deity. Later, the needy are given rice, salt, ghee, vegetables, fruits, and clothing. Tulsi water is sprinkled about as a symbol of Lord Vishnu. This is the first plowing day for the forthcoming harvest season in Eastern India. Also, before beginning a new audit book for the following fiscal year, businesspeople worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. This is referred to as ‘halakha.’ Many individuals buy gold and gold jewelry today. Buying gold on this day is considered holy since it represents good fortune and riches. On this day, Jains finish their year-long Tapasya and conclude their worship by sipping sugarcane juice. Spiritual exercises, meditation, and chanting sacred mantras are crucial for ensuring good fortune in the future. On this day, devotees of Lord Krishna embalm the deity with sandalwood paste. It is thought that if this is done, the person will go to paradise after death.
