Four guys have been detained in Bengal for impersonating police officers and duping villagers out of millions of rupees by promising them jobs. Kolkata Police have detained four individuals acting as Deputy Superintendents of Police and other police officers after the arrest of a fake IAS officer and a fake CBI lawyer.

Four individuals, including the ringleader Masud Rana, have been detained for impersonating police officials and duping others into thinking they were applying for government employment. A case has been opened in response to a complaint filed by Samaresh Mahata of Salboni, West Midnapore.

Mahata said that four individuals, including Rana, impersonated a DSP and falsely promised him a job as a house guard in the West Bengal Police force in exchange for a large sum of money. “The accused people took Rs 35 lakh in cash from the complainant and others and provided them false, forged appointment documents, along with a khaki beret cap and belt to make it appear authentic,” said a senior Kolkata Police official.

Masud Rana, Subhro Nag Roy, Rabi Murmu, and Paritosh Burman were detained at a hotel in Central Kolkata by the Kolkata Police Anti-Rowdy Squad. “Rs 1.85 lakh incriminating papers were recovered, including fake/forged ID cards declaring Masud Rana to be a DSP, fake/forged appointment letters for the job of the home guard, khaki beret hats and belts, and so on,” said a top Kolkata Police officer.
