Vladimir Putin is undergoing cancer treatment and will temporarily relinquish control to an ex-KGB leader.

According to a Kremlin insider, Russian President Vladimir Putin may be compelled to forfeit custody of the Ukrainian fight for a few days while experiencing cancer surgery. He will reportedly set hardline retired FSB chief Nikolai Patrushev to assume quick command of the attack while beneath the knife.

Patrushev, the 70-year-old incumbent Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, is seen as a key architect of the war strategy thus far and the man who convinced Putin that Kyiv is rife with neo-Nazis. Putin was “unlikely to consent to a transfer of authority,” but he was willing to appoint a “charge d’affaires” to oversee Russia and the war effort. According to the article, the remarkable accusations were made on the famous Telegram channel General SVR, whose source is said to be a well-placed official in the Kremlin. “I don’t know how long (Putin would be disabled after surgery), but I imagine it’ll be a short period,” an insider said.

According to General SVR, Putin was diagnosed with stomach cancer and Parkinson’s disease 18 months ago. He has reportedly postponed surgery, which will now occur after the Victory Day commemoration of Russia’s World War II victory in Red Square on May 9. The report comes amid anticipation that Putin would declare all-out war on Ukraine and order the mass mobilization of military-age males, posing a significant political risk.
