Sakra world hospital, Bangalore bags India’s first national award For laboratory excellence from QCI

Sakra World Hospital, a premier healthcare organization bringing advanced Japanese technology and delivering breakthrough healthcare in India, has another feather added to its cap of achievements.

It is now the awardee of the prestigious Professor SK Joshi National Award for Laboratory Excellence by the Quality Council of India (QCI) in the medical laboratories segment.

This first-of-its-kind Laboratory Excellence Award in India, which was organized to promote Laboratory Quality in the country, recognized Sakra’s state-of-the-art and well-equipped laboratory, meeting global quality standards.

The award ceremony was held in New Delhi during the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Quality Council of India. This award aims to locate India’s best labs, demonstrate them to the rest of the world, and set higher standards for Indian laboratories in front of the world.

The award was open to all currently operational laboratories pertaining to Testing, Calibration & Medical, including their Proficiency Testing Providers & Reference Material Producers in India. The participant laboratories were subjected to five stages of rigorous assessment: Application Document Evaluation, Physical/Virtual Presentation, Site Assessment/Verification, Reference check by the Technical Expert Committee (TEC), and Jury evaluation.

Dr. Shabnam Roohi, Director – Laboratory Medicine at Sakra World Hospital, said: “This award will ensure performance improvement of the laboratories in the country and will play a crucial role in motivating the small and large diagnostic labs across the country to try and achieve the highest standards of quality.

Commitment to continual improvement and transparency has helped us achieve this honor. Professor SK Joshi National Award is named after the late Professor SK Joshi, an excellent science communicator, and leader who inspired a new generation of scientists and researchers to help India achieve worldwide success. He had an illustrious career as a scientist and headed many prestigious institutions such as National Physical Laboratory, CSIR, etc. He was felicitated with Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, CV Raman Medal of INSA, and several other prestigious awards.
