Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital pioneers real time cross border robotic surgery for kidney treatment

Dr T B Yuvaraja, Director Uro Oncology and Robotic Surgery, and Dr Santosh Shetty, Executive Director and CEO, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, highlight India led remote robotic kidney surgery performed in Muscat using Medbot Toumai system

Mumbai, April 8, 2026: Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital has performed a cross border robotic surgery, where a radical nephrectomy was conducted on a patient in Muscat while the surgeon operated remotely from Mumbai.
The procedure was carried out by Dr T B Yuvaraja, Director Group Uro Oncology and Robotic Surgery, who performed the surgery on a 55 year old female patient at Medical City Hospital in Muscat.

The surgery utilised the Medbot Toumai Robotic Surgery System, enabling real time precision and control through advanced connectivity and robotic technology.
This development marks a significant step in the evolution of remote surgical care, demonstrating the ability to deliver complex medical procedures across geographies without requiring the physical presence of the surgeon.

Dr T B Yuvaraja said the ability to perform surgery across borders in real time reflects a shift in healthcare delivery, where access to medical expertise is no longer limited by location.
Dr Santosh Shetty, Executive Director and CEO, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, said the milestone builds on the hospital’s ongoing work in robotic and remote surgery, strengthening its position in advanced medical technology.
The procedure was conducted in line with regulatory frameworks, including guidelines from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, ensuring adherence to safety and clinical standards.

Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital operates a dedicated Centre for Robotic Surgery and houses advanced robotic platforms, supporting complex procedures across specialties.
The development highlights India’s growing role in delivering healthcare services beyond borders, enabling patients to access specialised treatment without international travel.
With continued advancements in robotic systems and connectivity, remote surgery is expected to play an increasing role in expanding access to timely and specialised medical care.
