HCG Cancer Hospital, Bengaluru organised walkathon observing the Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Bengaluru, 30th October 2022 – Marking the Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, HCG Cancer Hospital, Bengaluru organised a walkathon with the aim of spreading awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early diagnosis and tackling the social stigma related to it. The walkathon was flagged off in the presence of Ms. Manisha Kumar, Chief Operating Officer, HCG Cancer Hospital, Bengaluru, Dr. Mahesh Bandemagal, Surgical Oncologist, HCG Cancer Hospital, Bengaluru.

About 300 participants were part of the walkathon that included doctors, nurses, and general public. The walk started from the Vidhana Soudha and ended at HCG Cancer Hospital – KR Road in Sampangiram Nagar covering a distance of 3kms. The walkathon was in alignment with this year’s theme of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Together We Rise. The intent of this walkathon was to encourage and bring more women with any kind of early signs of breast cancer to the clinic for timely diagnosis as early detection is the key to cure breast cancer.

Ms. Manisha Kumar, Chief Operating Officer, HCG Cancer Hospital, Bengaluru said, “We are glad to witness huge turnout for the walkathon, helping us inspire and educate more women while raising awareness about breast cancer. Early detection can save lakhs of lives and this walkathon is an endeavour towards educating women. The platform was created to put women at the forefront to take charge of their health and motivate others with their indomitable spirit and will power to fight against breast cancer”.

Dr. Mahesh Bandemagal, Surgical Oncologist, HCG Cancer Hospital, Bengaluru said, “This initiative is focused to educate and create awareness among people regarding the benefits of early cancer screening and prevent cancer from developing to advanced stages as early detection is the key to better cure. We also aim to educate women on how to self-Examine themselves to detect cancer. By having periodic check-ups, early signs of disease and dysfunction can be picked up and hence can be treated early. Every woman should do a self-examination, and in case they find lumps or any unusual knots, they should not delay visiting a specialist. It is critical to get a right diagnosis at the right time”.

Ms. Manisha Kumar, Chief Operating Officer, HCG Cancer Hospital, Bengaluru also felicitated the DGE of Rotary club and senior most women participants of the walkathon to acknowledge and applaud their contribution towards creating awareness about breast cancer.
