In the midst of a tremendous increase in COVID-19 cases in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has requested Mumbai residents to phone a particular hotline number and ward-war rooms if a Covid bed or ambulance is required in their specific districts or wards.
Since the pandemic breakout, the BMC hotline number 1916 has been dedicated to answering questions regarding covid-19 and assisting individuals in providing information on the availability of beds and vaccine centers placed in separate wards.
Mumbai recorded 15,166 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the city’s highest-ever day total and an increase of 4,306 from the previous day, while three more people died from the virus, according to the city municipal authority.
With these additions, the city’s overall coronavirus count grew to 8,33,628, while the mortality toll increased to 16,384, according to a bulletin issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Mumbai has reported the most COVID-19 cases in a single day since the pandemic’s onset in March 2020, at 15,166. On Tuesday, the city had reported 10,860 instances, and the most recent tally represents a surge of 4,306 cases, or 39.65%, in only 24 hours.

Every day, all 24 war rooms receive a list of Covid-19 positive patients in their respective wards from the Indian Council of Medical Research, which receives information from all government and commercial laboratories that do RT-PCR testing. They also receive calls from persons who have Covid-19 symptoms but have yet to receive confirming testing or test results. Data regarding persons exhibiting symptoms is also fed in by health personnel conducting contact tracing on the ground.
The battle center crew are largely BMC school teachers, many of whom have been mobilized for Covid-19 service from as far away as Palghar, Vasai, and Virar. Data entry operators and physicians assist them.
