Orthorexia: Eating well may become a problem; here’s everything you need to know about it.

Virtually all specialists frequently recommend a healthy lifestyle in our day and age when obesity and mental illnesses are at an all-time high.

But, despite the rising buzz and culture surrounding healthy eating, not everything is as rosy as it appears. Diseases can be caused by eating nutritious foods. Isn’t it almost unthinkable? Nonetheless, it is correct.

Let’s examine a bit deeper into the topic we’ve just created a debate over.

Never in a million years would anybody have predicted that eating correctly would lead to illnesses; nevertheless, it is the mentality, not the food, that is creating the problem here.

There are various such eating-related obsessive-compulsive disorders, but the one we’re talking about today is orthorexia.

Orthorexia, also known as orthorexia Nervosa, is a kind of eating disorder marked by an unhealthy obsession with eating healthily. Unlike others, it is primarily concerned with the quality of food rather than the amount of food. People with this condition are more anxious about their meals and components being pure than losing time.

How can we tell whether someone has this disorder? The simple answer is that there isn’t a precise criterion for diagnosing a condition like this. Researchers and doctors have proposed signs that might indicate a disease like this.

Compulsively reading ingredient lists and Nutrition Facts Labels, eliminating an increasing number of items or food categories, displaying high levels of anxiety when “healthy” foods aren’t available, and obsessively following “healthy living” social media accounts and blogs are just a few of the symptoms.

We must also keep in mind that someone who adheres to a strict diet or strives to eat healthily does not always suffer from orthorexia.

When a habit becomes focused or obsessive, though, it may become a source of concern.

Yes, there can be physical, emotional, and even social problems. A lack of vital nutrients caused by a limited diet can result in malnutrition, anemia, and a prolonged heart rate. Digestive issues, electrolyte and hormonal imbalances, metabolic acidosis, and bone health difficulties can all result from severe malnutrition. Simultaneously, one may have significant psychological consequences, such as a lack of attention, a loss of interest in social situations, and more.
