What to Eat and Avoid When Treating Malaria

Malaria is an illness that produces a high-grade fever and is carried via female Anopheline mosquito bites. Mosquitoes carry the parasite from infected person to infected person. After that, the parasites enter the circulation and infect red blood cells. The most frequent symptoms of malaria include fever, chills, headache, nausea, and vomiting.

Although there is no special diet for malaria, solid nutrition is critical for recovery. A healthy diet should increase the patient’s immune system while avoiding damaging the liver, kidneys, or digestive tract. To help the patient accept the meal, they should be encouraged to eat regularly and in minor amounts.

What to eat:

Grains:

When you have malaria, you should increase your phytonutrients to help fight the antioxidative stress caused by the infection. Nuts and seeds are high in phytonutrients, good fats, and protein. When you’re hungry between meals and don’t know what to eat while suffering from malaria, nuts and seeds are always the best options because processed foods are out of reach.

Liquid consumption:

Liquids including glucose water, fresh fruit juices, coconut water, lemon, salt, sugar, water sorbet, and electoral water should all be incorporated. If you plan to drink water, ensure it has been boiled or sterilized. Fluids can be consumed in various ways, including milkshakes, fruit and vegetable juices, rice water, pulse water, stews, soups, etc. Drink 3 to 3.5 liters of water every day. Fluids will help cleanse toxins from the body through urine and feces, allowing you to recuperate more quickly. If you have malaria, Ajwain water is another miracle drink you should include in your diet. As a carminative (flatulence-relieving characteristic similar to a drug), it aids in the maintenance of your digestive tract.

What not to eat:
Green vegetables, thick-skinned fruits, and whole-grain cereals should all be avoided. Avoid high-fat meals such as fries, chips, pastries, anything containing a lot of cheese, maida-based dishes, etc. Reduce your consumption of spicy and hot meals. It will induce unnecessary stomach problems and heartburn. Sauces and pickles should never be included in the diet of a malaria sufferer. Caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea, chocolate, cola, and others should be avoided.
It is vital to combat vitamin deficiency by drinking electrolytes. Soups, stews, and fruit juices are all good, like dal water, coconut water, and other drinks. Malaria patients require foods strong in vitamin C and A, such as papaya, beets, other citrus fruits, and vitamin B complex.
