Our Blues, starring Kim Woo-bin, Shin Min-ah, and Lee Byung-hun, will be available to stream on Netflix beginning April 9. Fans were thrilled since it was the first time their favorite couple, Woo-bin and Shin Min-ah, would appear in the show, even if they weren’t in the same frame together. Kim Woo-bin and Shin Min-ah have been dating since 2015, but they are notoriously cautious about releasing more personal details about themselves. Writer Noh Hee-kyung discussed the casting and why they weren’t cast as each other’s romantic interests.
Noh addressed the issue in a press conference, saying, “I knew they wouldn’t join the show if they were cast as a couple.” They would not seem like a pair when I was casting them; instead, they would be in a romantic connection with someone else. I wanted to cast them as they are outstanding actors. They are professional and cool.” After learning about the show’s cast, Kim Woo-bin also shared his initial reaction: “I was incredibly nervous.” I was thrilled to be working on this project with veteran actors that I much like. Being in a production with such seasoned players does not always happen.”
Unlike other K-dramas, Our Blues is presented in an omnibus format. The series tells the stories of several folks who live on Jeju Island. Lee Byung-hun plays Lee Dong Suk, a man who was born and reared in rural Jeju Island and worked as a truck salesman. Shin Min-ah co-stars as Min Sun Ah, a woman with a secret, alongside Lee Byung-hun. Han Ji-min portrays Lee Ong-ok, while Kim Woo-bin portrays Park Jung-Joon, a man who falls in love with her.
