The NCPA launches The Art of the Possible Symposium for those working in the design, technical, and production of live events

The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) is proud to launch The Art of the Possible initiative with a free, 2-day online symposium. This is supported by the British Council and Godrej. This will bring together designers, technicians, and managers working in the live events and performing arts sector from across India and beyond. There will be eight sessions across two days, looking at a variety of current topics in the technical arts industry.

In 2021, the NCPA commissioned ArtX to create a report on technical theatre and design professionals working in India. Following a series of extensive interviews, roundtables, and surveys, the Art of the Possible report was created, supported by the British Council. In response to this report, the NCPA is launching a series of initiatives to engage with and support designers, technicians, and stage & production managers. The symposium is the launch of these initiatives.

This event is for Indian designers, technicians and managers, and those who live and work in India. All who support us and work with us are welcome.

If you work in theatre, music, events, corporate, dance, weddings, opera, festivals, theme parks, or any other form of the live event, this will be of interest.

Featuring an array of celebrated artists and award-winning practitioners who have worked at the highest level around the world, there will be a mixture of panels and round tables covering topics such as collaborative working practice, pay and conditions, designing internationally, and being a woman in this industry.

Panelists include Shabana Azmi, Rick Fisher (Tony, Drama Desk and Olivier award-winning lighting designer), Gabriella Slade (Tony and BAFTA award-winning Costume designer for SIX), David Filshie (Production Manager Sharjah Performing Arts Academy and Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts) and David Grindle (Former Chief Exec of USITT).
Dates: Saturday 27th and Sunday 28 August 2022. 15:00 and 21:00 IST.
