The Avengers, an American comic strip superhero team whose lineup usually includes some of the most recognizable characters from the Marvel Comics world. The Avengers billed as “Earth’s Mightiest Super-Heroes,” were developed by writer Stan Lee and illustrator Jack Kirby and debuted in The Avengers no. 1 in 1962. (September 1963).

Marvel intended to unify its greatest stars in one book, inspired by the success of DC Comics’ Justice League of America, which included characters such as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. The Avengers, on the other hand, was far from a carbon clone of the Justice League.

Marvel’s squad was marked by internal strife, and it owed its existence primarily to the schemes of a villain. Loki, the Norse deity of mischief, manipulates his half-brother, Thor, the thunder god, into a fight with the Hulk. This squabble catches the attention of Iron Man as well as the crime-fighting team of Ant-Man and the Wasp. Although this quartet first assumes the Hulk is the villain responsible for railway sabotage, Loki swiftly emerges as the true enemy and suffers a crushing defeat.

Before the heroes split up, Ant-Man recommends that they form a permanent alliance, and The Avengers (a name given by the Wasp) are created. With the departure of the Hulk and the accession of Captain America, who had been trapped in ice since the conclusion of World War II, the team’s lineup altered almost instantly.

The Avengers differentiated itself from the Justice League of America in their following roster change by challenging the concept of heroism itself. Whereas the members of the JLA were all virtuous, some Avengers began their careers as villains. When Thor, Giant-Man (the previous Ant-Man, who would later change his name to Goliath), and the Wasp all quit the team simultaneously, Captain America finds himself in command of a new band of Avengers, each of whom has a troubled background.
