To meet her childhood governess, Shreya, a writer, is on a visit to India from the US. She finds a letter Browsing through an old book, inside the cover of a book drafted three decades ago, by a lady, Janaki, to her lover Ram. Disheartened and intrigued by the letter, Shreya’s contents, is first posed with the question, “Did Janaki and Shriram unite or their fate had willed otherwise? Sensing a beautiful concept for a story, she thus embarks on a journey to reach the letter to its intended owner and see where their love stood in the present day. But it was a tedious task, to find someone who knew, might not even exist. But she is determined to see the story to its logical end.

“In a relationship, silence is never golden. More further, you communicate, the better you will feel. Communication is the single most important thing in a relationship. Similarly, giving up is not the same as giving in. Relationships are all about compromise, and ego has no place here. The ego has no relationship skills. You can agree to disagree without feeling inferior. Sadly with the improved technology, communications, like the internet social media, mobile technology, have only succeeded in distancing us from our loved ones rather than bringing us closer. Today our relationships are governed by egoistic goals. A “Sorry” sent as a WhatsApp message seldom appeals to the heart as one emotionally uttered, face to face.”

Sunderkand shot using an iPhone 7 Plus smartphone. Though it is incredibly mobile, it does pose some challenges too, like extreme low light, shooting depth, audio sync (it’s not possible to shoot distant shots without an external mic. We have made a sincere effort in NOT using any external gadgets, including external lights, or an external mic, to stick to the fundamental challenge of filming this romantic travelogue, armed with only the iPhone. It does lead to some compromises, but the overall result more than makes up for it. Lastly, thanks to the entire team of cast and crew, most of them first-timers for their time and patience, without which we could never have achieved this success. The film isn’t keeping commercial interests in mind.
