Happy Birthday to the immensely talented John Cleese

John Cleese is an English actor, comedian, and producer. He garnered much praise at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and on The Frost Report as a scriptwriter and performer.

John Cleese is an English actor, comedian, and producer. He garnered much praise at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and on The Frost Report as a scriptwriter and performer. He co-founded Monty Python in the 1960s –  the comedy troupe credited for the show – Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Along with his Python co-stars, Cleese starred in Monty Python films, which include Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, and The Meaning of Life.

In the mid-1970s, Cleese, along with his first wife, Connie Booth, co-wrote ‘Fawlty Towers’, in which he also starred as ‘Basil Fawlty.’ Cleese received the 1980 BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance. The show topped the British Film Institute’s list of the 100 Greatest British Television Programmes in 2000. Cleese, along with Kevin Kline, Jamie Lee Curtis, and former Michael Palin, starred in A Fish Called Wanda. The film got nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

John Cleese has also starred in Time Bandits and Rat Race and has appeared in many other films, including Silverado, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, two James Bond films (as R and Q), two Harry Potter films (as Nearly Headless Nick), and the last three Shrek films.
