Moore and Gibbons serve as watchmen.

Watchmen was a 12-part DC Comics series from September 1986 to October 1987, produced by author Alan Moore’s graphic novel and illustrator Dave Gibbons.

In the superhero genre, the deep characters and mature lines of stories were different from anything before seen. In 1983 DC gained the Action Heroes line’s rights, a collection of characters held by the editor Charlton Comics. Moore and Gibbons wanted to utilize these characters in their projected Watchmen Story in a manner that was considered inconsistent with DC editorial intentions. Because DC wanted to merge many of those characters in its primary comic universe, a new cast was decided — strongly inspired by Charlton characters — and placed them in a different environment. The script of Moore extends from the beginning of the 40s to the mid-80s and incorporates references to the real leaders of the globe and events at the time. Waiters explored how the real-life superheroes would impact the world around them and how people would react to them every day in a deconstruction of classic comics. The narrative opens with a straightforward plot of killing or neutralizing costumed superheroes. A more disastrous scheme with a faked extraterrestrial invasion is discovered at the end, which murders thousands of New York citizens. To tackle this familiar (unknown to them, fictitious) threat, the US and the Soviet Union are back on the brink of a nuclear war. Moore established an uncharted universe of the genre – ambiguous moral superheroes — his storyline was complicated, and he drew on sarcasm, symbolism, and many viewpoints to convey his narrative. Gibbons’ exquisite precise works have been added to the distinctiveness and intensity of the series. Watchmen was the first post-modern superhero comic in many aspects to examine the motives, insanity, and cravings that might make individuals clothe themselves and risk their lives. The series asked: How could they utilize a genuine human if they possessed enormous power? The power has strengthened and fuelled inherent aggression with cruel comedians and psychotic Rorschach.
