They also share habitat with the jungle cat, dhole, striped hyena, and wolf.
- Bera Wildlife Sanctuary, Rajasthan – Bera Leopard Sanctuary is located in the Pali district’s small town of Bera, which has the most significant number of leopards in India. The whole black hills of the Jawai dam are home to secretive Indian leopards. It is a great site to observe leopards in India and crocodiles, hyenas, mongooses, sloth bears, and birds like flamingos, sarus cranes, and water ducks.
- Kabini Wildlife Sanctuary, Karnataka – The Indian Leopard may be seen in the wild at the Nagarhole National Park in Karnataka. Kabini is part of the Nagarhole and is home to a robust population of leopards and a melanistic leopard known as the Black Panther. Along with the neighboring Bandipur National Park, the park preserves Karnataka’s wildlife and is also an excellent site to observe elephants in India.
- Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary, Maharashtra – Tadoba Tiger Reserve spans 625.4 square kilometers and includes the Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary, home to 88 tigers and a breeding population of Indian leopards. The reserve is most known for its keystone species, the Bengal tiger. Still, it also has gaur, sloth bears, honey badgers, and a melanistic color variety of leopards known as the black panther, which was recently found in Tadoba.
- Sasan Gir Wildlife Sanctuary, Gujarat – Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is a wholly protected region near Talala Gir in Gujarat noted for Asiatic lions. Gir’s wildlife sanctuary also has a healthy leopard population and plans to build a distinct leopard park for improved leopard protection.
- Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh – Bandhavgarh National Park has an enormous tiger population in Madhya Pradesh, but it also has a substantial breeding population of leopards. The park boasts the highest population of tigers in India, but one of the park’s secondary attractions is the uncommon sighting of Indian leopards. Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra have the most leopards in India, followed by Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, and Uttarakhand. Human-leopard conflict is the greatest threat to their existence in India. As a result of natural prey and habitat loss, leopards now prey on street dogs, feral pigs, and domestic goats.
