It’s long been a running gag at the offices that we should compile a list of “best cats”—after all, this is the internet. Two brave and cat-obsessed editors have finally taken on this assignment for your amusement. After considerable deliberation, we provide you with our final list of the most delicate cats, in our opinion.

  1. Gray Tabby – The term “grey tabby” refers to coat color and pattern rather than a breed. The grey tabby’s athletic appearance is unparalleled. Of course, classic tabbies can be produced, but part of the pleasure of cats is the genetic rock-tumbler that generates unpredictable color and pattern combinations.
  2. The traditional tabby markings are stripes and whorls all over the head, limbs, body, and tail, although mixed-breed tabbies can have “dilute” or broken patterns, as well as white chests undersides and paws. The latter is a very appealing mix, and it’s never more charming than when the cat’s hair is primarily grey; it’s a discreet, neutral appearance that fits with almost everything—especially a pink nose and a caring demeanor.
  3. Scottish Fold – Although his ears are pretty straight, online sensation Maru is a Scottish Fold, a cat breed distinguished by ears that fold forward and down. A farm cat discovered in 1961 was the first Scottish Fold. Scottish Folds must have turned-down ears for display, but these are the consequence of a genetic mutation; therefore, not all genuine Scottish Folds have them.
  4. Persian – Fur, fur, and more fur. Persians (known as Longhairs outside the United States) are the classic “luxury” cat—that is, the cat who expects to be maintained in the lap of luxury. They are, nevertheless, the world’s most famous cat breed. Although they are renowned for the pushed-in “Pekingese” nose that many are bred for, their portability is perhaps the most attractive feature of these cats. However, all that fur necessitates a lot of care regularly, and Persians are prone to renal illness, necessitating periodic ultrasounds.
